"Too Big For My Skin" Campaign

Too Big for My Skin is not just a poem! It’s a mind state. It’s an international campaign that invites you to rethink society’s beauty standards and your own. We would love to know your thoughts about what the campaign represents.  The campaign was created around ideas of positive body image, acceptance and strength. It’s about finding your voice and speaking. We need to create NEW images of what is beautiful to us instead of waiting for the media to tell us what is beautiful! Join us in the campaign!

If you’d like to make a contribution to the campaign you can click below! Your donation will go to support the campaign, buy materials for workshops and make workshops in schools and community centers possible for all youth.

The poem has recently been published in the St. Paul Almanac which is available for purchase here.

“My momma never told a lie, she couldn’t when the truth was clear
Through stretch marks and crow’s feet, the truth is what she told me
Not through words, but through the curve of her hips…”

I like what the underlying message here, to be comfortable with yourself, no matter what you look like. It will take me longer to be comfortable. I am overweight and have always been told that having heft if ugly. I feel bad about being over weight and have tried everything to lose it, but have alot of obsticals forcing me to be a size 18. thyroid disease, being over 40, and a lifestyle that contributes to my seditary work day. Until I finish my degree, I don’t feel I have serious time to devote to my weight loss and feel better about myself. I don’t know if that is depression, or marketing images engrained in my head. Long story short, we can change society’s mind on what beauty is one digital story at a time.
